Imprint
Jan Levy and Amanda King
Meet the artists: Jan and Amanda will be in the Gallery on Tuesday the 17th of Feb and the 1st and 2nd of March.
The psychological effect of time spent immersed in nature impacts the way the natural world is perceived. As a means to access this transformative perception, Amanda King and Jan Levy have organised many self initiated artist field trips to study and develop new work. Together, immersed in situ, they contemplate, experience and record observations and reflections of their chosen location. They draw, record images, collect flotsam and journal whilst camped out on the land; a process that has a direct relationship to the distinctive style each artist has developed in their arts practice. These long term connections with country bear witness over time to the forces of change; drought, fire and flood, loss of habitat and biodiversity. In the studio, both artists independently decode their observations and discoveries using an experimental merging of traditional and contemporary printmaking techniques and surfaces.
Imprint showcases King and Levy’s creative methodology. An artistic reinterpretation of nature in its many forms, Imprint brings together work from collaborative and individual excursions as an ode to our fragile environment.
